Position Description

  • Knowledge of mechanical inspection techniques and tools including micrometers, Vernier calipers, bore gages, dial indicators, scales, hardness testing and CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machines) in a machine shop environment.

  • Inspect mechanical parts and assemblies

  • Retrieval of drawings from various drawing/drafting systems

  • Review and approve material certifications for chemical and physical properties and inspect documents required on purchased materials

  • Complete required reports and quality documents

  • Function as part of a quality team and interface with inspectors on the team

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision

  • Work overtime when required. Possible extended workdays, weekends and holidays.

  • Possible travel (5%) if required

  • High level of written, organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills

  • Ability to lift 40 pounds using proper lifting equipment and perform duties while standing for extended periods of time

  • Other duties as directed by Supervisor of Quality Assurance or Operations Management

Position Requirements

Perform detailed inspections to tight tolerances in a machine shop environment as part of the quality control team.

  • High School graduate or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years machine shop, quality control, or related experience (i.e., trade school, apprentice school training, etc.)

  • Capable of calculating basic mathematical functions including computation of rate, ratio and percent

  • Capable of reading and interpreting mechanical machining and assembly drawings

  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret bills of materials, parts lists and material specifications

  • Ability to review, analyze and disposition non-conforming material

  • Rotating equipment product/process knowledge desired

  • Good verbal and written communication skills

  • Good working knowledge of ERP based systems, Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Preferences

Experience with FARO Arm measuring equipment is a plus.
