Position Description

Flowserve is looking for a highly skilled, experienced machinist at our Quick Response Center in Sarnia. Our machinists operate conventional machines to repair pumps used in industrial settings, such as refineries, power plants, and factories. The machinists analyze specifications, set-up and operate machines, and maintain machines. The machinists are part of a production team who work together to troubleshoot problems and meet demanding deadlines.

Position Requirements

• 5-10 years machining experience with metals in a manufacturing or repair environment

• High school diploma or GED equivalent required

• Must be a ticketed General Machinist

• Must be able to work within close tolerances

• Experience with rotating equipment strongly preferred

• Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and drawings

• Skilled in using precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, dial indicators, and depth gauges

• Skilled in the use of cranes and lifts to move heavy equipment. Forklift certification desirable

• Must show a customer-service mindset at all times

• Able to communicate clearly so as to explain and resolve problems. Must be able to read and understand instructions • Demonstrated track record of a reliable work ethic with a personal commitment to quality workmanship

• Able to work overtime and weekends as required on short notice

• Standing for long times required, repetitive arm motions, frequent pushing and lifting with occasional lifting up to 50 pounds


• Machine pump parts utilizing conventional machines in horizontal and vertical machining centers, including lathes, mills, drill presses, saws, and grinders

• Verify the quality of finished work, demonstrating an in-depth understanding of specifications and workmanship, and using precision measurement tools

• Meet production goals relating to scrap and rework, efficiency, and schedules

• Maintain a safe workplace by wearing PPE, following procedures, and completing training

• Clean and maintain machines and tools, and keep an organized workspace

• Record accurate, timely data on computer-based systems or in manual logs

• Apply in-depth understanding of the process flow of documents, materials, and parts through the repair or manufacturing process

• Apply knowledge of equipment applications in the manufacturing process

• Apply a good understanding of tooling design concepts

• Work closely with other machinists to discuss and solve problems relating to repairs and equipment

• Collaborate with inventory workers and engineers to status and discuss work-in-progress

• Mentor other machinists to develop and increase skills across the team

• Focus on improvement by participating in continuous improvement team activities
