DUTIES: Act as a primary point of contact for assignment of new customer inquiries requiring factory-specific support. Assist manager in processing new factory orders. Receive and analyze customer's specifications, drawings, and other pertinent data. Review technical specs on inquiries received from around the world requesting proposals for pumps, motors, controls & instrumentation. Assure mechanical equipment will meet technical and performance (mechanical, hydraulic, control & power) requirements. Prepare proposals using available information in product reference manuals, company generated pricing tools, and collaborate with factory as necessary. Organize data for review by engineering and obtain cost estimate when product cannot be priced from book. Prepare proposal accordingly. Handle customer inquiries to maintain good customer communications. Work closely with sales offices worldwide to facilitate the sales effort and keep them informed on status of proposals and orders. Keep current on all important negotiations and report developments. Receive and analyze customer orders, ensuring that they are acceptable relative to commercial terms, price, delivery, etc. Understand and implement Flowserve corporate policy to achieve both the customer's and company’s goals. Cooperate with other departments to execute customer orders and meet customer requirements. Handle customer complaints properly with other departments. Organize and participate in pre- and post- award meetings. Cooperate with other business units and respond to their inquiries regarding product lines manufactured by Taneytown site. Assist in providing feedback to ensure product reference manuals remain updated. Participate in product and skills training as required. Support special team projects, continuous improvement projects as required. Maintain an awareness of competitors' trends in the market place. Keep abreast of changes in market trends and requirements. Maintain constant interface with all departments, sales, customers and vendors. Acquire product application knowledge. Evaluate cost and establish selling price by developing market level pricing as applicable to inquiries received. Understand the relationship of the various departments to each other and implement actions to assure effective coordination of same.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or in a closely related or equivalent field. 4 years of experience in an engineering role with a rotating equipment manufacturer. Experience to include: 4 years of experience making hydraulic selections for centrifugal pumps; 4 years of experience reading and interpreting technical customer specifications; 3 years of experience applying pump hydraulics in various operating systems (e.g., power, oil and gas, chemical, general industry, and/or water); 3 years of manufacturing experience related to planning and cost estimation; 3 years of experience developing project proposal reviews that evaluate technical and commercial risks/benefits against strategic objectives; 2 years of experience utilizing Microsoft Office Applications to generate technical presentations, letters, and spreadsheets; 1 year of experience gaining manufacturing knowledge of pump assembly, machining, and testing; 1 year of experience utilizing Microsoft Excel to generate hydraulic performance curves; 1 year of experience utilizing AutoCAD or Solid Works to create General Arrangement drawings; 1 year of experience training peers or colleagues on fundamental application engineering processes for pumps; and, 1 year of experience developing market level pricing.
