Role Summary:

The Control Solutions Specialist is a pivotal role in building the process control system level understanding and capabilities in the existing downstream industries and emerging technology areas of hydrogen economy, advanced plastic and various decarbonization initiatives.

As countries around the globe begin to adopt decarbonization at scale and shift from dependency on carbon-based fuels to cleaner sources, Flowserve intends to see itself as complete solution provider in certain niche areas within the ecosystem and migrate from a traditional role of an original equipment manufacturer. It is expected that this approach would create significant value for the developer/end -user and create the necessary differentiation at the front end of the projects for Flowserve. The incumbent will be a key resource to help us deliver on that intended strategy, combining deep control system design and project development expertise with a savvy approach to understanding of customer needs and gaps in the existing execution methodologies.

This role is intended to incubate the control system design and execution expertise in tandem with the process engineering function that can grow in scale with time and across the breadth of Flowserve’s end market. The position offers significant opportunities to grow as a technical expert with a deep and valuable understanding of continuous value creation within the market including:

  • Refineries of the future – technology adoption to operate with low fuel demand and drop in fuel production (renewable diesel, etc.)

  • Standalone Biofuels & Bio-refineries

  • Gas to Liquid- ammonia (Blue), Methanol etc.

  • Hydrogen (Blue, Green & Gray) – Fuel Cells

  • Carbon Capture & Sequestration – Pre & Post Combustion Capture

  • Electrolysis

  • Recycled plastics and bio plastics

  • Direct Air Capture

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conceive and define the scope and deliverables for control systems projects in consultation with clients/customer and develop the control system engineering package using a team of engineers. Should be able to work independently as a subject matter expert with minimal guidance. The deliverables can be but not limited to the following:

  • Develop the complete technology layers for control & safety system design around process systems, define control logics, control & operating philosophies, develop control schemes and P&IDs

  • Clearly identify acceptable specifications for key process control valves, isolation valves and ON/OFF valves, pumps, seals, compressors, hydraulic turbines etc.

  • Develop specifications and map the overall instrumentation of the main process loops, with special focus on Flow, Level, Temperature, Pressure control loops as a deliverable for the IOT team to create asset performance monitoring and analytics capabilities.

  • Identify existing flow control system product coverage, identify product gaps for future product line expansion, and provide general guidance on the industry acceptable specifications for product expansion.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering. Chemical/Mechanical, Process or Systems Engineering

  • Minimum 12 plus years’ experience, demonstrating technical growth in engineering roles within the energy, refining, hydrogen/ammonia, mining industries preferably worked for an engineering company.

  • Minimum 5 years’ lead level experience in design and development of integrated control systems with flow control as the central piece and related engineering /technology of systems as they relate to process optimization, operability, efficiency, and safety, including valves (control and isolation) and turbomachinery equipment.

  • Prior experience in scale up and commercialization of TRL 4-5 readiness level projects in control philosophy development, controls design /system design and engineering etc. preferred.

  • Experience in implementation/commissioning/maintenance of DCS, PLC, SCADA, SIS and/or Turbomachinery control systems is preferred.

  • Proven track record of program design, implementation, and management

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 25 % of time as and when required.
