Position Description:

The Application Engineer position in Raleigh is a cross-functional support position for Quality Assurance, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing, Inside and Outside Sales and Marketing, Product Engineering and Field Service. The Application Engineer will own or coordinate activities across all departments of the plant, including Quality Assurance Plan writing, Bill of Material creation and verification, quotation creation, and drawing approval. The Application Engineer will become a technical expert in selection and sizing valve and actuator designs for a diverse range of applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Review customer design specifications in order to select valves, actuators, and associated components to best meet the customer’s requirements.

  • Utilize design standards, technical expertise, and collaboration with other departments to develop Bills of Materials that define the parts that come together to build the product.

  • Validate availability and manufacturability of proposed application solutions.

  • Conduct work in compliance with industry codes and standards and Flowserve processes.

  • Actively prioritize and execute tasks to support customer expectations.

  • Support Continuous Improvement activities on both business processes and valve application design

Position Requirements:

  • B.S. degree in Engineering from an accredited university; preferred mechanical engineering

  • High mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with high degrees of self-management and prioritization

  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written, with colleagues and customers alike

  • Strong PC skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access strongly desired

  • Powerful self-driven work ethic, willing and able to work extended hours as needed.

  • Ability to establish priorities and work to specific deadlines with minimum supervision.

  • Ability to work in fast paced, high-energy, goal oriented team environment.

  • Ability to work effectively both individually and in a group environment

  • A “Can Do” attitude with personal expectations of excellence

  • Willingness to go “the extra mile” to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Familiarity with valves and/or commercial nuclear industry preferred

  • An eagerness to continue to learn, develop and apply new skills

Preferences:

  • Relevant industrial application engineering experience

  • Working familiarity with the ASME B&PV Code, ASME B16.34, or B31.1.

  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain within 2 to 4 years; already have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam.
