Position Description:

The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and executing assigned projects, consistent with the strategy of the Vernon Business Operation and within the resource capability of the company.

  • The incumbent shall advise leadership and/or business executives about the status and resource loading of assigned projects.

  • He/she will plan, direct, and ensure the successful outcome of projects utilizing the assigned project teams, as well as standards, practices, and toolsets established within the Vernon Business Operation and PMO.

  • The position shall support the efforts of the Vernon Business Operation in identifying, evaluating and developing project management methods and procedures that are efficient, effective and meet good business practice, while maintaining compliance with Flowserve policies regarding the execution and oversight of projects.


  • Develops roles and responsibilities, seeks out stakeholders and obtains their support for the project, negotiates for resources and motivates team members, and provides input to annual performance.

  • Communicates team objectives to ensure buy-in and understanding.

  • Proficient in compiling, analyzing and presenting project progress to all levels of management on both an ad hoc and routine basis.

  • Effectively communicates complex issues clearly and succinctly.

  • Executes, manages, coaches and mentors others in the triple constraint, and successfully articulates and manages complex trade-offs.

  • Pro-actively documents and communicates the impact of change orders as a means to driving additional revenue/profitability/resources.

  • Able to appropriately apply advanced tools and techniques for developing project work plan including PERT, Network Diagram, and Critical Chain methodologies.

  • Able to appropriately apply advanced tool and techniques for evaluating project progress including Earned Value.

  • Able to define and negotiate advanced or complex resource needs (skill sets, geographically dispersed teams, complex cultural challenges) with all possible internal and external resource providers and pro-actively manage revisions in response to project performance.

  • Able to effectively and pro-actively define, track, and negotiate expense and capital budgets and revisions in response to project performance.

  • Applies tools and techniques and anticipates changes based on lessons learned.

  • Demonstrated ability to identify project risk and develop risk register with accompanying mitigation plans.

  • Coaches and mentors others in Risk Management methodology.

  • Develops and drives the appropriate contingency plans during all phases of projects.

  • Extensive working knowledge of the quality principles, tools and systems.

  • Demonstrated ability in applying tools and techniques to project execution for improved project performance.

  • Able to clearly define and articulate quality metrics and targets necessary to achieve overall project success, and track/report status in quantifiable terms.

Position Requirements:


  • Knowledge of fundamentals of project management.

  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within budget.

  • Excellent estimating, scheduling & budgeting skills.

  • Ability to independently identify and resolve project issues.

  • Proven experience in influencing and leading.

  • Proven experience in risk management.

  • Proven experience in change management.

  • Excellent presentation, oral and written communication skills, including meeting and workshop facilitation experience.

  • Excellent team-building, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Enthusiasm, positive energy and motivated.

  • Proficient in project management software.

Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering desired, or Industrial or Engineering degree is required.

  • Industry experience: 5+ years in a similar, large custom built, skid mounted/manufactured equipment and/or machinery environment (centrifugal pumps, multi stage pumps, rotating equipment preferred).

  • Project Management experience: 3+ years.

  • Technical/Project Engineering experience: 5+ years


  • Desired Green Belt.

  • Certifications: PMP and or Prince2 is preferred, not required.

  • Experience in a leadership capacity is preferred but not required.
